Boise is alive with music. For many years the city has been abuzz with a blossoming music scene, collaborations, and perhaps the most impressive: its songwriters. Late last fall, Brother Fantastic (Mikey Borup) and the newly formed IME Productions (Amber Ottey, Stephanie Cooper, Bobbi Sweet, and Sarah Simpson) started formulating ideas on how to continue the forward movement of collaborating songwriters. They had worked together through the summer on a musical film with director Rick Walters and felt the pull to keep creating opportunities for local musicians. Brother Fantastic suggested a showcase, something that was part open mic and part formal talent showcase. IME Productions sought out the venue and stylized the heck out of their ideas. Together, they formed: A Fantastic Showcase.
The Showcase began its run in January of this year in the upstairs ballroom of Ochos. It has featured a multitude of notable songwriters in and around Boise, inviting crowds of industry professionals, family, and friends. Each event has been a successful ode to the craft of songwriting while facilitating a collaborative networking opportunity all in one. The historic 1892 Queen Anne-style building is already a gorgeous setting for an event like this, but the ladies at IME have poured their stylistic soul into decking it out with thoughtful presence. (Shameless plug here, I know, but I’m going to keep yapping about it to anyone that will listen.)
While the Fantastic Showcase season is winding down, the Treasure Valley still has a chance to catch the last installment of the year. May will feature more of a country genre with Andrew Chappell and Dave Nudo leading the May 14th date.
The 28th will feature the same songwriter lineup along with local industry professionals like bookers, producers, and photographers. Visitors can expect a listening crowd, a stylized ambiance that caters to the artists, and a chance to network with musicians.
It’s been a refreshing songwriting event that has truly felt magnetic in its efforts to connect and display the talent of the Treasure Valley. Brother Fantastic and IME Productions are already planning for next season in 2027. You can follow A Fantastic Showcase on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on what’s in store.
If you’re a fan of local songwriting, this event is a “can’t miss.”
See you at Ocho’s!
Love,
Sarah
